It was a very good walk with variable scenery, about 8.5 miles long. Conditions were relatively dry underfoot. We had good views all the way round. There were lots of ladder stiles. We had our lunch stop at a picnic table at a crossroads. Four cars passed while we were sitting there. We passed a couple of hill forts and walked alongside the Roman vallum. We found a mine entrance in the woods near Fallowfield. We also passed several ruined cottages, which were ripe for development. We just missed a baptism taking place in St. Oswalds Chapel. We had a chat with the vicar afterwards. Wildlife: Two mallard ducks in a pond, skylarks, pygmy goats, small pigs and horses. Very pregnant sheep. Free range hens. Snowdrops. No cows. |
