Comments

We started off parking on private land, because the leader said to turn left instead of right.

We didn't meet Robson Green, even though were near his home. There was a bit of climbing at the start, giving good views over the North Tyne valley. We spotted some large fungi on a rotten tree stump.

We stopped for lunch at a road junction, because there were two seats there. A slow, drawn-out procession of trial bikes went by.

Our second rest was at the War Memorial at Newbrough. We saw a memorial stone for Rossie the dog in Crow Wood, Newbrough. We encountered very tall nettles on the path down to the river at Allerwash, but there were no dock leaves to hand for an antidote.

There were Azuma trains operating on the line to Carlisle due to a diversion.

Wildlife: Not much wildlife in evidence but we did see at least four ducks, a young pheasant, dipper, crows and a peacock butterfly. Ron thought he saw a salmon jumping in the Tyne. As usual plenty of cows and sheep. Ron and Ruby had to clear a way through some cows.

Flora: Fields of turnips, sweetcorn, and blackberries. Betony flower.

Meal

The White Swan, Dinnington. Good beef steak pies. They were reluctant to offer us dessert.
