We were joined by Lin, and we were pleased that she enjoyed herself. It was an ideal day to work off some of the excesses of Christmas. There were lots of people out, especially dog walkers. We had lunch on the seats on the opposite side of the river from the Tyne Rowing Club at Newburn. The river was flat calm, silky smooth with no discernible flow. It was only one hour past high tide. The lovely reflections were wrecked by a group of jet skiers, who came racing upstream and turned and headed back downstream. We met lots of people out walking the route. There were plenty of small children on new bikes, scooters and roller blades. Wildlife: Herons, 5 cormorants, 7 herons, 1 goosander, various other assorted ducks and 1 jay. |
