It was a five-and-a-half-mile walk. We saw World War I training trenches. We sat on three logs for our lunch stop, in a sheltered and sunny spot. There were huge numbers of trees blown down or burnt down. The rhododendrons were out, and there were beautiful views. Ruby jumped a stile. We also met a ladies' mountain bike group. We retreated to the beer garden of the Turks Head. There was a stag party on going in pub – one man was dressed as a boy. Michael and Michelle returned to Rothbury early. Wildlife: Oystercatcher, skylarks, mallards, swans, house martins, sand martins making a nest in cemetery wall, wheatear, meadow pipit, swallows.
