Skelwith - Colwith - Little Langdale - Elterwater - Skelwith. Very good for the time of year. Warm and sunny. Michelle, Michael, George B., Ron, Ashley. Sandy and Beth spent the day shopping locally. |

The walk was like a fashion show - a catwalk, with lots of moggies (Ron's comment - "purrfect"!). Stunning views, with lots of attractive slate houses and build-your-own kits (slate heaps). There were weight-training Herdwickes, and a ram with massive horns. Camouflaged sheep, and severals sheep with duocorn. Lots of waterfalls at Colwith. Prehistoric fish (coelacanth). Lunch was taken overlooking the disused Hodge Close slate quarry with a precipitous overhang. People were walking round close to the edge. Ashley remarked that we would have to wipe the slate clean if anyone fell over. No Christmas Fayre at High Tilberthwaite, but lots of berries on the holly. At the Three Shires pub there was an inconclusive discussion about the existence of a magnetic south pole. This continued at the pub in the evening. A drunken wasp fell into Michael's beer (it swayed a bit over the table). Ron postulated his chocolate orange segment. Met a dog called George. Question - who was Paul Robinson from 1798? Wildlife: A duck on a rock (a "sitting duck" - Ashley); dead red squirrel, dead fox; live deer, chaffinches, and acorn-throwing crows. |
Carts Bog. Chocolate and walnuts on the venison. Beth had a chocolate pot. Joined by Evelyn. |
