Harwood Forest outside Harwood Village (very "Deliverance" like), Redpath, Fontburn, Dykehead Farm, and back. Overcast, slightly chilly on exposed bits. Disagreement about how windy it was at lunch (it's a matter of perception). George G, George B, Evelyn, Lance, Julie, Michelle, Bernie, Ashley, Ron, Sandy, Alex and Beth. |
Michael - full of cold Carol - working Philippa - ? (GG has given up ringing) Heidi - possibly in Yorkshire |
Kicked out of town by the locals. Drove round and round trying to find a parking place. Ashley's tripod had lost a screw - Ashley thinks that he has lost a nut. Saw a solar powered electric fence. Michelle had a bad trip and an elegant fall. Three (perhaps more) Arabs - sheik holes. How do you get shake holes in sandstone? Alex got covered in bird poo while climbing a trig point. A well with a level indicator. Low-flying aeroplanes and helicopter. Polo field. Bullseyes on a roof. No SAGA walk - the usual SAGA walkers coped with a normal walk. There were lots of fishermen at Fontburn, where the level was well down. Lots of umbrellas. We made realistic cow noises for Ashley's artistic photo. Long, tough tussocky bit towards the end - it was hard going. George B did a spectacular nose dive. Wildlife: Not a lot. Two deer, a wren, redshank, slugs. Lots of different types of fungi - at least 10, including toadstools that were black, yellow or red. Bullocks and calves enthusiastically joined the walk. A very friendly cat with white bootees at Horwood. Ashley the vet (superhero or sheepserver) rescued an upturned sheep, but would not do the same for GG's sheep imitation. |
The Plough at Mitford. Excellent Eve's Pudding. GG demolished a mammoth mince dumpling. |
