Ambleside - Wansfell Pike - Troutbeck - Robin Lane - Jenkyns Crag - Kelswick Woods - Ambleside. SAGA walk - Ambleside - Wansfell Pike - Jenkyns Crag - Kelswick Woods - Ambleside. Dry, cloudy with sunny intervals. Chilly when exposed. Michelle, Michael, Evelyn, George, Carol, George G, Lance, Ashley. |
Ron, Sandy and girls - Sandy not well Julie - in Australia Bernie - on the piste Philippa - couldn't get out of bed in time |
Most expensive car park in the world (£6). Lots of people. Smelly in places. Had to rescue Evelyn's stick which nearly fell into Skelghyll Force. There was a hot steep initial climb ('sarky' comments from an athletic climber with a West Highland terrier). There were lots of wells in Troutbeck: St. John's, St. Catherine's, St. James'. Also a lot of gates with unusual hinges: a 'revolting' gate, an offset-hinge gate, a spooky gate, a gate that sounded like a bird singing, also gateposts without a gate, and '38 wouldn't go' gate. Stopped for drinks in the 'Mortal Man'. Nice beer. Established that the young of a pidgeon must be a robin, because you never see them together. The conversation deteriorated rapidly - to blow jobs in Glasgow and a competition about the best tosser. Ashley embarrassed a young lady who offered to take our photo and said that Ashley had a tiny one and how did he make it work? Later on we could see on the horizon the place where we had had lunch at the top. Mike found a rare and precious mineral - purple with a chocolate centre. Later had a tea break overlooking Windermere, disturbing a lady's moment of solitude. We could see a nice garden in the distance through the binoculars, and a huge double decker bus(?!!). Wildlife: Robins singing but difficult to see; a wren, several ducks, and a hare. Carol saw a red squirrel en route. GG bought 2 pairs of boots on the cheap in Ambleside - Lance just bought one pair. |
The Rat at Anick. Nicest lamb cutlets Michelle has ever tasted. A bit dim so we couldn't see what we were eating. |
