George scooted with us until lunchtime then returned on his own to the car. A very pretty walk with lots of streams and bridges- aesthetically pleasing. Lots of tracks that were not on the map, which was very confusing. Felt like a constant uphill walk apart from one short sharp descent that was more like a black run. Long stretch through bracken. Came back along Hell’s path, which was now a wide track Distance : nearly nine miles at an average 2.4mph. George G set a demanding pace on the pre-lunch stretch. Saw several planes and gliders as well as a collection of beehives in a sheepfold. Good views of Cheviot, Hedgehope and Yeavering Bell. Significant changes in tree cover since Michelle was last in the area.Saw two specialised vehicles (Pinzgauer – made by Steyr-Puch) at Commonburn House. Broadstruther nicely renovated. Lots of people going the other way. Followed by a lazy couple who shortened their walk by taking their car to the road end. Friendly mutt withshaven legs – a shaggy dog. Wildlife / Flora / Animals: Some yellow gorse still around. Lots of popping gorse and broom. Birds : Grouse, Muscovy Ducks, Geese, Roosters, Hens, Skylarks, House Martins, unidentified bird of prey, white doves. Dragonfly, Peacock and Painted Lady butterflies. Large black beetles. Weasel (twice), white horses, rabbits, hare, strange looking goat that appeared to have the body of a donkey.
