Two friendly, scrawny, hungry robins in the car park. A vicious female blackbird attacked Ashley's camera. Ron lost and found his phone on the walk. The paths were all in the wrong places, and the hill fort signs were deceptive. We located Nellie Heron's stone (GG's great-great-great-grandmother) just before we expired of hunger. Bernie was the one who found it. Photos were taken for posterity. Sat on logs to eat lunch. Met a party of schoolgirls, possibly on DOE expedition, before the long straight track to Prendwick. There was a huge horse chestnut tree, with lots of embryonic conkers. Low Prendwick House was very attractive, with a very intricate farm. Afternoon tea was taken on an upturned trough. Interesting visitor centre at the end - there was a book describing Nellie Heron's last journey. Very polite children at the visitor centre. Wildlife: A walk of birdsong - curlews, lapwings and skylark. Lots of calves, a young lamb with large horns and half-sheared sheep. Ron and Sandy saw a frog. Dead pheasant and dead hedgehog. GG and Carol visited Holy Trinity Church in Seghill to count and photograph gravestones. Then they went to Blyth to see the new beach huts, then on to Whitley Bay and walked to St Mary's Island. Finally they went to Seaton Sluice to inspect GG's boat. |
