Comments

A pheasant demolished Evelyn's wing mirror en route. It was very cold. It would have been very muddy had the ground not been frozen. It was bumpy and hard going underfoot. Locked gates on public footpath, meant that we had to climb over them. Met a cheerful runner and his dog.

Lots of giant paw prints. Strong wind, even during lunch at Kirkheaton whilst sitting on a convenient seat on the green. Several friendly dogs eyed up our food. Evelyn stopped here, where her car had been left earlier. The rest headed off into the gale past three wind turbines. Two of these had blown down. Found an aqueduct at Hallington running from Hallington Reservoir to Whittle Dene. Saw some little brown calves, and horses. Large new gymnasium in the middle of a farm. The farm had a large wind turbine. Ryal has a 13th Century church.

Wildlife: not a lot. Saw seagulls, pigeons, a wren and one other unidentified bird.

Meal

The Badger, Ponteland. Slow service, but food good.
