Comments

Lots of thistles and nettles. Nice patch of heather. High ferns up to 6ft tall - not a good idea to wear shorts, as George and Bernie did, especially when trying to avoid a big bull. Nobody would wait for George. Shooters missed us but not the rabbits - they were training the dogs for the Glorious Twelfth. Specifically cut fields.

Ram's head building. Brand new gate for dwarves just outside Elsdon. The cafe that never shuts was shut and the pub that never opens was open. Very scenic lunch stop - view over Cheviot - identified when Ashley got his sense of direction in order. No other walkers. No paths were shut for Foot and Mouth, and there was no disinfectant. Met two friendly horse riders. Went through Northumberland Wild Trust Nature Area - Millmoss - a unique area of calciferous outcrops complete with adders and rare butterflies.

Wildlife: Barking Alsation. Two rabiits, lots of horses, two unidentified birds of prey. Lots of large mosquito-like insects. Sheep doing dressage. A rhino. Free range chickens and a squashed frog. Tiny little calf - just born. Pheasant.

Evening meal
