We stopped for an early lunch on Rocky Island overlooking Charley’s Garden (a rock stack in Colleywell Bay) at Seaton sluice. We spotted two cormorants and two herons as well as some oyster catchers. There were several items of junk art in and around Seaton Sluice. It was very pleasant in Holywell Dene with attractive autumnal colours and a lot of fallen trees. We stopped for a drink at the Milbourne Arms in Holywell village. While sitting outside in the warm sunshine we watched several ladybirds of a variety of colours and also some damsel flies. We had difficulty locating the path again at Holywell. The old bridge carrying the path over the burn was concealed by the bigger road bridge. Then there were several short steep climbs up staircases on to the disused railway. We spied an egret and a buzzard in the Dene. Ruby started limping when she got a beechnut stuck in her paw, but was still motivated to chase a squirrel. There were lots of other dogs around and plenty of cyclists, many without bells. |
