Brilliant sunshine, almost cloudless with very little wind, flat calm on the lake.

The walk wasn't as flat as advertised, although it was mainly undulating. The lake was very still with many reflections. A boat with red sails was making slow progress on the other side of the lake. We spotted the ferry twice. There were lots of cyclists, plus dogs out with their owners.

We found a warm lunch spot looking out across the lake. We saw the remains of the inclined railway at Plashetts, and climbed up part of the track bed on the way back.

The tree colours were spectacular, especially at the roadside. We saw some puffballs and button mushrooms with the middle picked out.

Wildlife: Not much. One hairy caterpillar. We heard some birds. A heron and a pheasant seen en route.
