Comments

The walk, in fact, took place on 27th February because due to ski-ing holidays and Easter there were no suitable Saturdays in March.

George’s back-end was nearly butted by a sheep as he bent down to tie his boots – he was saved by Bernie’s call.  We saw a strange goat/sheep beside the youth hostel, which we thought at first was a deer. We had to walk through several areas that had been freshly spread with muck – very smelly. Other sections were quite muddy. Waymarking was good on the outward half but not so good on the home stretch.

We found a sheltered lunch spot under the crags at Goldborough. Our second stop was at a picnic table for four on the north side of Blackton Reservoir – it was a bit cold so we didn't tarry for long. We noted the high quality of the walls surrounding the Reservoirs – well-dressed square and rectangular stone had been used. One section of wall had been built over an earlier pack horse bridge.

Wildlife / Flora / Fauna

Several flocks of lapwings, geese (possibly Canada), mallard ducks, oyster catchers, red shanks.

Meal

Robin Hood Inn – a definite improvement on our last visit.
