Comments

It was a bit like walking in the Cheviots. It was surprisingly dry underfoot. There were lots of people about for the middle of nowhere in December. There were seven cars parked at the start as well as two golden retrievers out for a stroll.

We had a long steady ascent to two Wainwrights, plus a good view of the hills above Bassenthwaite, where we walked in October. We could also see the backside of Skiddaw, Little Cock Up and the gash at Trusmadoor.

It was a cool lunch spot, and Ashley got a damp bum. The weather was too inclement for a second tea break. We met a group of four Yorkshire lads twice as well as two cyclists with a dog (a Hungarian vizsla) towards the end of the walk.

After the walk, we went to the small café in Caldbeck which served up very good coffee, scones and tea cakes. Then we made a very slow drive back to Warden in order to waste some time before our evening meal.

Wildlife / Flora / Fauna

Two ravens, and jackdaws inhabiting a dovecot. Lots of bog plants.

Meal

Boatside Inn, Warden.
