Comments | There were ten cattle grids on the walk, some of which were flooded. The penguin from Wallace and Gromit was tied to a bench. It was very damp underfoot – very boggy. There were many rickety stiles and gates. We passed some foxhounds in their compound. We didn't see any other walkers, only one farmer. It was an anti-social lunch – everyone spread out and Bernie had no stone to sit on. Bernie had a prize giving. The happy cow flashlight was won by Sandy and Michelle got second prize of a happy cow chocolate for coming up with a limerick. We passed a URC church dating back to 1725, which was the third oldest church in England, but it was locked so it wasn't possible to look inside. There was a box outside for contributions from walkers. We also saw Easter Cottage, which had been a school in the 17th century while the old manse next door had been a youth hostel. There was an optional tearoom at Kirkharle at the end.
Wildlife/flora: Real peacocks and peahens, fieldfares, chaffinch, pheasants running up hay bales. Tiny yellow mushrooms. Tree covered in fungi.
