Comments | A friendly policeman gave all of us a laminated note to leave in our cars which said there were no valuables in the car. Caldbeck is an attractive village with a free car park and toilets. There was a bumble bees' nest in the wall opposite the car park. There were several posh houses, even for the hens. It was pleasant countryside with good long distance views. Navigation was helped by flour deposits put down by some hash runners. There were lots of nettles, thistles and wild flowers. We were overlooked by curious cows at lunch. There was an attractive stone bridge at Sedbergham. North of Sedbergham it was difficult to find the route – there was evidence of obstruction. We visited St’ Mary’s Church in Sedbergham. The church had an impressive wood beam vaulted roof – the bell rope was just outside the door. We met two friendly black labradors. We returned to the cars along the Cumbrian Way – it was very muddy in places with a steep ascent towards the end. This was the first outing of George’s new boots – only one blister. Wildlife/flora: Heron, various types of ducks (some were large, brown with long necks), skylark, house martins, moths, a ladybird and possibly a mole. Belted cow. Orchids, masses of honeysuckle, foxgloves, wild garlic, gunnera. |

Meal | Blacksmith’s Arms, Talkin – nice meal, but less atmosphere in the restaurant than in the bar. |
