Comments

It was very muddy throughout, with lots of large puddles after a lot of rain in the previous week. Some of the woodland stretches were very slippery especially where boarding had been put down. The stiles and bridges were also treacherously slippery.

We had a chat with a farmer and his wife who were sitting in a barn while he plucked a brace of pheasants. There was a large docile Limousin bull called Jonny in a nearby stall.

We had our lunch in the sun at the old Holmslinn Lead Mine. We sat on the stone wall of what was the old hydraulic winding engine foundation, while we ate our sandwiches.

There was lots of water in the burns, and a spectacular waterfall at Sinderhope

Wildlife/flora:

Two herons, meadow pipit, geese and ducks, rabbits, friendly horses and a friendly 10-year-old grey ewe at Park. Sandy had a hare-raising experience and one horse came over to try and kiss Ron while he was reading the map. Also a friendly grouse just past Stobb Cross. Several black sheep in a field as we descended into Allendale. The holly bushes were covered in red berries and looked very festive, especially the one with a robin perched on it.

Meal

No one available to eat.
