Comments

It was a dangerous start at the road interchange, with cars zooming round the corner. Underfoot it was very heavy and muddy, as well as extremely slippy. As a result we were tired at the end.

We were held up momentarily by a shooting party who were very friendly. Pheasant and pigeon for dinner (them, not us)! Popping of guns heard all the way around. Lots of stiles and an unfordable ford partly due to high levels of water in the river after recent heavy rain. We met man with a friendly German shepherd dog and a black labrador.

The first potential lunch spot was aborted because a lady had put her dirty boots on the bench in order to tie the laces. We found a nice sunny spot for lunch in Felton Park, despite lots of nettles and still prickly dead thistles. After lunch Ashley received an unsolicited phone call from a debt agency. Saw a couple of dead crows fixed to a tree and a stile. On the way back we met a friendly black labrador called Willow at Elyhaugh. The other locals were friendly as well, including a fat cow and some of her slimmer pals. We spotted a lot of limping sheep .

We had welcome cups of tea and coffee at Angler’s Arms at Weldon Bridge on our return. There were no scones but it was a nice warm room.

Wildlife/Flora/Animals:

Birds: robin, ducks, pheasants, geese, swans, crows, guineafowl and a possible buzzard at Weldon Bridge.

Butterflies/insects: Ladybird on some steps.

Mammals/others: two hares.
