The section of the walk to the west of the A1 did not give any problems, although at times the path was indistinct and the GPS proved useful. We found a pleasant lunch spot on a hillside. There were good views of Bamburgh, Lindisfarne, Dunstanburgh and the Farne Islands. We saw a nice house at Rosebrough. After we crossed the A1 at Rosebrough, we encountered problems with a herd of frisky cows and calves, who were not happy to see us or the dog. We also found that a stile on the path was too overgrown to be crossed and another herd of cows, calves and a bull were looking aggressive. Eventually we retreated and found an alternative way back to Warenford. However, we found crops growing over the public footpath in a couple of fields and the stiles in and out of the fields were blocked by hedging. We had a drink outside at the pub in Warenford and watched a ginger cat. Wildlife: Birds: Skylark, buzzard, curlew, grey wagtail, hawk, chickens. Mammals: Rabbits, two deer, two donkeys, Shetland pony, stoat, frisky cows, ginger cat, two hares, pig, tiny white calf. Insects: Ladybirds, little brown butterflies. Flora: Poppies, thistles, toadstools and many other lovely flowers. |
